Guess who was performing in Tampa Bay after the Isles-Lightning game last weekend?
I shared a memorable elevator ride with the one-and-only Coolio. Milan Jurcina and Jay Pandolfo had no clue who he was, nor could they understand why anyone would choose to look like that. (Yes - he still looks like that.)
I didn’t say hi or get a picture with the mid-90’s hip-hop star because deep down, I knew that I actually know Weird Al’s cover of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise,” “Amish Pardise,” better than Coolio’s hit. If I didn’t believe in my own street cred, I wasn’t about to fool the man behind “1-2-3-4 (sumpin’ new)” or “Fantastic Voyage.”
Speaking of street cred - had I spoken to Coolio, I’m not sure I could have avoided bringing up his questionable decision to perform the theme song to Nickelodeon’s “Kenan & Kel.” Career-ender?
